If chanting of a mantra can give enlightenment... why has not even a single person in the entire history of mankind gained enlightenment this way! If chanting of a mantra can give enlightenment... where was the need for mankind to indulge in things materialistic... all would all the time chant mantras and seek enlightenment at the earliest opportunity!

In spite the fact that Bhagavad Gita is absolutely clear on this point yet, mankind indulges in things spurious! No matter what... no matter how many trips an Indian takes to Haridwar or Vaishno Devi... enlightenment simply cannot be gained that way! We have to cut across shackles of karma in entirety to reach stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana).

By establishing absolute control over five senses and mind... practising absolute celibacy for a minimum period of 12 years in continuation... human beings finally awakened their kundalini shakti fully! The moment kundalini energy... the coiled serpentine energy lying dormant in base of spine activated fully... one gained enlightenment... became omniscient for all practical purposes!

You state... Lord Brahma says... the only way out in Kali Yuga to gain enlightenment is to chant the Hare Rama Hare Krishna maha mantra! Do we ever realize that Lord Brahma is only an attribute of God Almighty and exists only in Hindu mythology? There has never been one like Lord Brahma in the entire history of mankind!

There has never been one like Lord Vishnu or Lord Shiva. All these three gods form Hindu Trinity of gods! All the three are attributes of God Almighty... creation of Hindu mythology! Lord Krishna was born an ordinary mortal... yet, his kundalini awakened when two years of age! He gained supernatural powers at a very young age and mankind termed him avatar (God manifest in human form)!

In the entire history of mankind, Lord Krishna was the first avatar (God manifest in human form) that advent mankind in flesh! Lord Krishna came in Dwapar Yuga... a period of strife that demanded re-establishing of Dharma (righteousness) over forces of adharma (lawlessness)! In present times... in present Kali Yuga people await coming of Bhagavan Kalki... an avatar of present era (God manifest in human form)!

Only those people... human beings who have absolute faith in path of jnana yoga (path of absolute wisdom)... try and assimilate teachings of Bhagavad Gita! Those remaining immersed in path of bhakti yoga verily think of shortcuts to gaining enlightenment via chanting of mantras... visiting religious places like Haridwar or Vaishno Devi!

On path of pure spirituality... there are absolutely no shortcuts! In the domain of God there never are free lunches! The system of God is never disordered at any stage as stipulated by Stephen Hawking... in his famous book "a brief history of time". The ignorant scientist failed to understand that system of God can never be understood via path of science!

For understanding God and his system... absolute faith in God is necessitated! Spirituality starts from the point where science ends... prime reason why scientists’ world over always failed to understand what God is all about! Science demands proofs that are not forthcoming in field of spirituality. For knowing God... for reaching God we only need absolute faith in God Almighty!

It is absolute faith in God Almighty that spurs us to taking path of jnana yoga (path of absolute wisdom)! Thereby practising absolute celibacy for a minimum period of 12 years in continuation human beings finally reached stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and salvation (moksha)! In the field of pure spirituality there are no pretences... no false promises!

Talking of Bhagavad Gita... talking of God Almighty... we always talk in terms of absolute! Bhagavad Gita of Hinduism contains truth but only truth! In the mortal world people commit sins day and night and in the end think they can wash their sins by taking a dip in river Ganges or a trip to Vaishno Devi. Such things are never to be! Such ignorant human beings exist only for the sake of material comforts... nothing else matters to them!

Mortals of the mortal world... ignorant human beings always thought that while committing unethical and immoral acts God is looking the other way! Such people failed to realize that God Almighty always acts as a Dhrishta (onlooker) never interfering with creation of his. Every act indulged by human beings was taken care of by karma that acts as accountant general of cosmic system! None can escape the clutches of karma... no matter what!

In a corrupt world it is quite possible in a country like India where existence of law and order is absolute zero... we get away with our sins in the eyes of law! But what in the domain of God... we not only get punished in the house of God... we manifest fruits of karma performed by us in the past... no matter what! If we have erred in the past... we suffer for that in present!

As far as God Almighty is concerned... one thing is absolutely clear! In the present Kali Yuga... Dark Age... metal age God Almighty can only be reached via path of jnana yoga... path of absolute wisdom! Only by assimilating pearls of wisdom contained in Bhagavad Gita could human beings realize God in present times!

Realizing God is one thing... in present times people do not have time or faith to understand even the basics... the definition and purport of spirituality... Dharma... karma! I have yet to find a person who could clearly explain to me definition or meaning of God, spirituality, religion, Dharma or karma! None world over seriously desires indulging in Bhagavad Gita... everyone desire a shortcut!

Navkar mantra of Jainism only glorifies the attributes of God Almighty! Chanting of a mantra never makes us reach God! Chanting of a mantra at the most can purify our thoughts and has its limitations! Mantras help us maintaining absolute faith in God Almighty! When all seemed lost... it is through channel of mantras human beings regained their equipoise!

The chanting of mantras repeatedly affirms our faith in God Almighty! If we look at basics of life... we have only one life to live... the present earthly sojourn of 70 to 80 years! Who knows what we shall be in next manifestation! Whatever our achievements of present life... the same gets transferred to next life through path of karma!

It is in our interest that we travel spiritual path in present life time. The original gist of Bhagavad Gita... the doctrine given to mankind by Lord Krishna is available for mere $.60 (rupees 30/=) at most railway stations of India or directly from Gita press, Gorakhpur, India (who also have a website presence).

The original Bhagavad Gita with English translation is also available for $.60 (rupees 30/=) a highly subsidized publication primarily by government of India! Yet... how many people world over understood the gist of Bhagavad Gita... perhaps none! Remaining engrossed in trivialities of life... we just cannot attain God... we have to follow the gist of Bhagavad Gita to reach God!

Chanting of Gayatri mantra... chanting of Hare Rama Hare Krishna maha mantra never leads one to gaining enlightenment in present life time! We must never remain under an illusion that God Almighty can be reached via path of religion... path of rituals or chanting various mantras! God Almighty is always reached via path of spirituality... path of jnana yoga... path of absolute wisdom!

 Full text of query: You mention that the Navakar mantra of the jains is the best mantra to chant. I am already doing it. However being born in a Brahmin family we have been taught the gayathri mantra from young and I have been chanting it daily. I have done some research on it and it is supposed to give enlightment. Should I continue to chant it?

According to the Kali Santrana Upanishad it is mentioned that Lord Brahma says that the only way out in Kali Yuga to gain enlightment is to chant the Hare Rama Hare Krishna maha mantra. On the other hand the Kaivalya Upanishad states that those who chant Sri Rudram can obtain Mukthi. Please help clear this doubt.
